It was on at the NFT in London a couple of years ago. Apart from Seberg, it gave David Niven one of his few opportunities to do more than go through a routine, and he did it well.<br />Sagan was also a compulsive gambler - there is a fascinating account of her finding out she would be bankrupt if she elft the table at Aspinall's in London and calmly betting money she didn't have to get back to parity.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36271824.post-37556425316710552482015-03-13T06:47:22.527-07:002015-03-13T06:47:22.527-07:00Merci, mille!Merci, mille!jhegenbehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07082204163626888629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36271824.post-33158672901461357442010-04-13T22:56:21.628-07:002010-04-13T22:56:21.628-07:00i read BT when i was 17 and much out of sorts with...i read BT when i was 17 and much out of sorts with life, the capturing of a Proustian moment of memory and transferring of it to the identity of a developing self, to the insidious suggestion of some Oedipal complex, Sagan used it all...and still sounds so serenely simple and pretty.priyankahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15539158392018361157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36271824.post-16139480658565286472009-12-10T12:36:18.802-08:002009-12-10T12:36:18.802-08:00I read the book around the same time you did, and ...I read the book around the same time you did, and loved it, but haven't read it since. Also haven't read anything else by Sagan. So perhaps I should give it another look. I did see Preminger's movie about six months ago, and think you should give it another chance. It's really quite good. It may well be the only thing I've seen with Seberg other than "Breathless", and I thought she was terrific.MPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12515927050827397245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36271824.post-34237624453291631692009-12-09T19:30:27.580-08:002009-12-09T19:30:27.580-08:00Thanks, Ed. I was thoroughly impressed with the book, and not just because Sagan was about my age when she wrote it.
