Stuff

A shout out to Patti Abbott for her Forgotten Books Friday. One of the real pleasures of the week.

Congratulations to the Edgar nominees. Tom Piccirilli's fine novel The Cold Spot was nominated for best paperback. I just wish excellent Dave Zeltserman's Small Crimes had also been nominated. And our Five Star book by Tom Epperson was nominated for best first novel.

For all seven hundred and forty three of you who wrote to tell me that my "girl friend" link the other night was a porn scam...ok ok to quote PeeWee Herman. But I still don't know how they make any money on this.

A great night for tv last night. With My Friend Earl we got to see Jaimie Pressly in a yoga contortion (walking with her legs over her shoulders) singing These Boots Are Made for Walking; Dwight and Andy both dumping Angela at the same time (stay tuned); and at least four members of the 30 Rock cast vomiting. You never saw this kind of stuff on Father Knows Best.

  1. Ed, thanks. The Edgar people will have another shot next year with Pariah, we'll see what happens.

All three shows last night were very entertaining. Unfortunately the first season of Earl was kind of spotty and my wife quit on it and I can't talk her into giving it another shot. I think the show's great. The Office was spot on last night, and 30 Rock cracked me up throughout--especially Liz's dream vacation.

  2. Thanks, Ed. And I agree about SMALL CRIMES. Maybe it's late in the year debut hurt it. It should have been one of the nominees. Thirdly, I have fallen for more goofy scams or hoaxes on the Internet than anyone.

  3. Oh, and another comment. The Office had me with the cast racing the speed sign. That was only one of three great concepts.

  4. Christa Faust's was also a good nomination, but I have to wonder about the lock Dick Wolf productions seem to have on the teleplay list, and how any CSI MIAMI script could nudge off all the LIFE, THE WIRE, or even BURN NOTICE and CHUCK scripts.

Always glad to take part in Patti's FFB...
