TEN CURRENT CELEBRITIES I CAN LIVE WITHOUT-

Ed here: I know I'm a cranky old bastard who gets too easily annoyed but for what it's worth:

TEN CURRENT CELEBRITIES I COULD LIVE WITHOUT-

1. Nancy Grace - as ugly outside as in
2. Jennifer Aniston - cute but dull. Lisa Kudrow's Showtime show was infinitely braver and wittier anything Aniston will ever do.
3. Lawrence O'Donnell - I liked him till he turned drama queen. Enough already.
4. Gwyneth Paltrow - started out strong but devolved into this spoiled whining heiress married to one of the biggest assholes in rock and role. Her mother Blythe Danner is far more talented and sexy.
5. The cast of Modern Family. I keep being told how good it is but I can't get through a single episode.
6. Any political talk show host who puts Mike Allen on his/her program. He is the single dumbest (and I'm including Fox) talking head of all time, the plutocrat's lap dog.
7. Zach Galifianakis--I know, right now he's St. Zach. But he's basically a one-trick pony and the pony is getting real tired.
8. All overpaid sports stars who break the law.
9. Diane Sawyer. Maybe just because she worked for Henry Kissinger but also maybe because she comes off like The Seven Sisters Do The News.
10. Lady Ga-Ga--yes she can really sing but all the artsy -craftsy stagecraft is getting tedious. She may be able to stretch her fifteen minutes to seventeen but not eighteen.

  1. Yeah, Ed, you're a cranky old bastard, but at least you're willing to admit it.

Your list is pretty good, but I would add:

All owners of professional sports teams.

Guy Fieri from the Food Network.

    "Dr. Oz."

    "Dr. Drew"

    "Dr. Phil"

    Jenny McCarthy.

    Ashton Kutcher.

    Charlie Sheen.

Every member of the British "royal family," and all of their in-laws.

Casey Anthony (I checked Merriam-Webster online's definition of "celebrity," and she qualifies, in that she is "a famous or celebrated person").

I would subtract from your list one of the stars of "Modern Family," Ed O'Neil, who played Al Bundy on the great show "Married with Children." He gets a lifetime pass for appearing on that show.

  2. I'll give you Ed O'Neil. The great "Married With Children" almost wiped the onerous "The Bill Cosby Show" entirely from my mind. "Married" of course was direct parody of the treacly Cosby show. And all the drs. you mention would be at the top of my next top ten.

  3. Ed, Lisa Kudrow's HBO show, The Comeback, was great. She's got a new show on soon on Showtime that I'm looking forward to. Zach Galifiankis is very good on Bored To Death, so I'll give him a pass for now. Agree with your other choices, though.

  4. I'll trade ya Lawrence O'Donnell for Kim Kardashian (well, all the Kardashian-Jenner family and assorted hangers-on).

  5. I could add so many more. Rachel Ray, Kathy Lee Gifford, Donald Trump. Sarah Palin and her fellow nominees, and her children, the cast of every reality show on TV, the cast of Glee, Howie Mandell, Conan O'Brien etc. etc.

  6. I'll trade Modern Family for Seinfeld, the single most overrated show in history.

  7. I'm with you on Jennifer Aniston. She is dull and terrible actress. I don't understand how she keeps getting work.

And I just don't get the Zach Galifianakas thing. I just don't get it. I think I must be missing something.

  8. I'm with you, Patti, on all your choices. Esp Conan. I never thought he was very funny except in spurts and his whining about losing his job to Leno (another celeb I can live without) got real tiresome. He got 35 mil in a country where more and more people are getting food stamps--until the gop cuts those out too.

#8 gets a big definite from me. And I'm a sports fan, too.

  10. I agree with almost everyone (except I like Seinfeld), and I'd add every Scientologist celebrity.

  11. Aniston has done two decent, not superb, films since that terrible series left her set for life, THE GOOD GIRL and, of course, OFFICE SPACE. MODERN FAMILY is dumbed-down ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, which already was overpraised, and in its turn slicked up/pumped up SONS & DAUGHTERS. Zach G. in concert as a comedian/pianist is pretty damned good...in BETWEEN TWO FERNS he's often inventive (and mostly appropriate in BORED TO DEATH)...in shit like THE HANGOVER he's in shit like THE HANGOVER.

  12. Don't dish the cast of Modern Family because you don't like the show. I haven't seen the cast members out and about being "celebrities."
